About Me

I’m an experienced psychotherapist helping people address relationship issues in my offices on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, in lower Westchester, and in western Long Island. I received my Master in Social Work degree from New York University and am certified by New York State as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I also hold post-master’s certificates in Family and Couples Therapy and in Clinical Work with Adolescents.

In addition to maintaining a private therapy practice, I’ve worked with students in a college mental health center and with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in agencies and schools. I’m currently on staff as a family and couples therapist at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in Manhattan, and I teach couples therapy at the master’s degree level. To stay informed about the latest developments in the mental health, I regularly participate in trainings and workshops. I’m a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

My work as a therapist is also informed by my previous careers.

I’m a former musician and see music making as uniquely related to the work of therapy. Both depend on the ability to listen sensitively and attune to languages that reach beyond words. In both disciplines, it is crucial to know when to take the lead, and when to assume a more supportive role.

My second career, as a stay-at-home father, has provided invaluable perspectives on child development and parenting dos and don’ts. My experience in this non-traditional role also gives me unique insights into the ways in which gender-based differences can complicate the dynamics of a couple relationship.
